The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) has announced that, as of Nov. 21, Gulfstream Park has been released from the quarantine put in place after a horse residing there tested positive for equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1).

The quarantine was released after all horses in the high-risk barns tested negative for the virus and no additional EHV-1 cases were detected during the 14-day quarantine period.

A private veterinarian reported that a horse stabled at the Hallandale Beach, Florida, track had become neurologic died of natural causes on Nov. 6. Subsequent testing positive confirmed the horse was positive for a wild-type strain of EHV-1.

“We are asking all those in the equine community to continue to practice prudent biosecurity on their farms and to report any suspected cases of EHV-1,” the FDACS said in a statement
