The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has reported that several more barns have been released from equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) quarantine at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. Meanwhile, no new cases have been confirmed in the unrelated Inyo County incident.

In a Dec. 13 update, the CDFA said that Barns D, E, and F had not had a confirmed EHV-1 case and were released from quarantine on Dec. 11. Additionally, Barns A and B have not had a confirmed case in three weeks and four weeks, respectively. Those barns were released on Dec. 13. All horses in Barn C, however, remain under quarantine.

“The LAEC incident has had a total of 15 EHV-1 confirmed cases, all of those caused by the non-neurotrophic strain EHV-1 virus,” the CDFA said.

Five horses remain in quarantined isolation. “Three of these horses are remaining in isolation as additional negative tests are anticipated,” the agency said. “Two of the horses continue to shed virus and will be resampled for diagnostic EHV-1 testing. None of these five horses are febrile or showing neurologic symptoms at this time
