Nineteen horses were killed when the trailer in which they were riding overturned in Mississippi.

Corporal Tony Dunn, public information officer for the Mississippi Highway Patrol, said a tractor-trailer hauling multiple horses was traveling on US Highway 82 when it veered off the road and overturned on Feb. 28. He did not confirm the total number of horses in the trailer, but said 19 were killed.

The truck driver, Harry Swift of Bastrop, Louisiana, was not injured, Dunn said.
