Dozens of allegedly maltreated horses are recovering after they were seized from a Watertown, New York, farm.

Jefferson County, New York, Assistant District Attorney Christina Curri said investigators visited the property on March 2 in response to a complaint about allegedly maltreated animals and found approximately 150 animals residing there, including 49 horses. Veterinary examination revealed that all the horses were allegedly maltreated, Curri said.

Authorities seized the horses, along with all the other animals including llamas, cows, peacocks, and goats, she said.

“We were just not prepared for that many animals,” Curri said. “But the community really stepped up
