The Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) has announced its 2011 seminar and clinic schedule, consisting of three new owner seminars, a breeding clinic, and three pedigree and conformation clinics. The seminars are sponsored by Blood-Horse Publications, a subsidiary of TOBA.

The 14-year-old Thoroughbred stallion Mr. Livingston, who had recently been relocated to a Louisiana breeding farm for the 2011 breeding season, died Jan. 9 in a paddock accident at the farm. Owned by David and Teresa Palmer, Mr. Livingston formerly stood at Bridlewood Farm near Ocala, Fla.

A 6-year-old daughter of the stallion Petionville, Pumped won five of 40 career starts, with 12 placings and earnings of $132,610.
The Jockey Club has reduced the price of microchips for sale to interested owners and breeders by 50%, from $20 to $10 per chip. Introduced in March 2008, microchips are not currently a requirement for Thoroughbred registration with The Jockey Club and participation is voluntary. The chips are for use in Thoroughbreds residing within the United States and in all U.S. territories.
Amidst all the hoopla surrounding Zenyatta’s retirement and the speculation regarding the identity of her first mate, last year’s Horse of the Year has been all but forgotten. Yet Rachel Alexandra also occupies a unique place in racing history, and her broodmare career should be one of some interest.
