Law enforcement authorities are searching for a Georgia woman who abruptly vacated the animal rescue she operated in Long County, leaving numerous animal carcasses behind on the property.

Long County Sheriff’s Dept. Sgt. Mark Hall said authorities began searching for the operator of Loonie Farms Animal Rescue in Ludowici last week after discovering the remains of dozens of animals including equids, pigs, dogs, and cats on the rescue’s property.

"Some of the remains have been there for six months up to one year," Hall said.

Some live animals were also found at the scene, Hall said. He declined to elaborate further
