A Texas Grand Jury has indicted a Coryell County couple on animal cruelty charges stemming from the removal of more than 300 animals–including 42 horses–from their property earlier this year.

In January Coryell County Sheriff’s Deputies acted on a warrant to remove 39 of the horses after their owners, Curtis and Raycene Moore, failed to carry out a Sheriff’s Department Livestock Officer’s instructions for their care. All the horses showed signs of malnutrition, said Coryell Chief Deputy Joe Blakely. In addition, 250 dogs, two Bengal tigers, two mountain lions, one primate, one deer, and one raccoon among other animals were later removed from the property.

Following the removal, the animals were placed in the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ custody.
