A New York woman is facing multiple animal cruelty charges in connection with the alleged maltreatment of horses on her Saratoga County property.

Cathy Cloutier, executive director of the Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Upstate New York, said that in September her agency, along with New York State Police, began investigating the conditions of animals on the property after a visitor’s complaints.

"(The property owner) had advertised on a horse-related website that she had some horses she needed help with," Cloutier said. "When the visitor saw conditions there, she contacted us."

On Oct. 6 Catskill Animal Sanctuary personnel and volunteers removed 14 horses from the property and transported them to the sanctuary for rehabilitative care, Cloutier said. Property owner Ann Arnold voluntarily surrendered the 14 removed animals. Another nine horses remain on the property, Cloutier said. Arnold was later charged with 19 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty, Cloutier said
