Top Thoroughbred jockey John Velazquez was released this morning (April 21) from the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center after suffering injuries sustained in a fall yesterday afternoon when his horse collapsed and rolled onto him after finishing first in the Forerunner Stakes at Keeneland.

Velazquez was treated for injuries to his chest and right shoulder. His attending physician, Dr. Bernard Boulanger, said Velazquez’ prognosis for a full recovery is good. It is unknown how long it will take his injuries to fully heal and for him to return to racing.

“How long he will be sidelined is fully dependent on how his body heals,” Boulanger said.

Velazquez thanked Keeneland for all their support and the entire UK staff for their excellent medical care
