California authorities are seeking the owner of an injured mare abandoned in the Lake Pillsbury area of Lake County.

William Davidson, director of Lake County Animal Care and Control, said agency personnel were called to a store where campers had brought the animal on Nov. 15. The campers said the horse had been allegedly abandoned by someone towing a green trailer, Davidson said.

Davidson said a veterinarian determined that the sorrel mare is about 5 years old and has a 30-day-old injury to her right rear leg.

“There is still some swelling in the leg, and the veterinarian said anything could have happened to cause it,” Davidson said
