The Turkish Equine Veterinary Association (TEVA) held its inaugural meeting, Sept. 17-21 at the Veliefendi Race Course in Istanbul.

On the first day, attendees took part in practical workshops on neurology and abdominal ultrasound led by Rene van den Hoven, DVM, PhD, Dipl. ECEIM, ECVPT, and Bianca Schwarz, PhD, DVM, Dipl. ECEIM. In the neurology workshop, participants watched introductory videos of neurologic horses before practicing a neurologic examination. In the ultrasonography workshop, participants practiced scanning using an ultrasound machine provided by one of the sponsors of this WEVA intermediate meeting.

The following day the official meeting started with lectures held in the Byerley Turk Suite at the racecourse. Approximately 80 delegates attended; participants included academics or research assistants working at several of the country's 25 veterinary schools, clinicians employed by the Turkish Jockey Club, a few private equine practitioners from the Istanbul area, and a few attendees from Bulgaria and Romania
