A possible equine herpesvirus (EHV) outbreak has prompted quarantine measures to be implemented at Beulah Park in Ohio.

Beulah Park, located near Columbus, is closed for live racing until Jan. 8, but horses stabled at the track regularly ship to other tracks. Some of these tracks, including Charles Town Races in Charles Town, W.Va., and Penn National Race Course in Grantville, Pa., have placed restrictions on Beulah Park shippers pending the outcome of the tests.

The 2010 meet at Beulah Park ended Dec. 22. Many horses ship back and forth between Beulah Park and Turfway Park in Florence, Ky., which restricted shippers from the Ohio track effective Dec. 24 after rumors of sick horses surfaced.

Turfway president Bob Elliston said that horses stabled at Turfway shipped to Beulah Park won't be permitted to re-enter the Kentucky track grounds until the situation is resolved
