The Kentucky Horse Council (KHC) encourages the pursuit of further education in the equine industry by offering scholarships to students attending Kentucky schools majoring in equine studies or related fields.

“Twenty-five students applied for our spring scholarships making it extremely competitive,” noted KHC Board President Madelyn Millard. “The increased interest in equine education bodes well for the future of Kentucky’s signature industry. Through supporting the education of the next generation of equine professionals the Kentucky Horse Council ensures continued advancement of the Kentucky equine industry.”


In 2009 KHC is slated to award eight $1,250 scholarships (four each semester) to elite students. Applicants are evaluated based on their academic performance, community involvement and personal essay.æ Scholarships were awarded for fall semester 2009 to the following students attending Kentucky schools: 


Emily Callahan of Collinsville, Ill., will be a freshman attending Murray State University in the fall with a major in pre-veterinary studies. She plans to specialize in genetic research. Emily has been an active participant with several horse 4-H activities including the Illinois State Hippology Team. A member of the National Honor Society, Emily has volunteered with Girl Scout camps and handicap riding camps. Her equine involvement includes Miniature Horses, Quarter Horses, and gaited horses
