Veterinarians typically treat acute hives in horses by identifying and removing the trigger, followed by medications such as antihistamines or corticosteroids to reduce the allergic response and skin swelling. Veterinarians also monitor for more serious reactions and might use supportive care, including cool water therapy and environmental management, to help the skin settle and prevent recurrence.
