Ryerss Farm for Aged Equines will host one stop on the 2000 Chester County Farm-City Tour on November 4. The tour is an annual event in Chester County, PA, which gives city and suburban dwellers from surrounding communities the chance to view agriculture, and agricultural issues, up close.

The goal of this year’s farm-city tour is to show the public how the agricultural community has evolved in order to co-exist and serve the growing sprawl of Suburbia. A number of farms throughout Chester County will host stops at their facilities, giving visitors narrated tours and samples of the various products they produce.

Ryerss Farm for Aged Equines will be of particular interest to visitors because of the unique role it plays in the equine community. Home to nearly 100 aged and abused horses, Ryerss is the oldest and largest non-profit organization of its kind in the country. Established in 1888 as part of an endowment from the estate of Ann Waln Ryerss, the farm’s mission is to provide aged and abused horses with a place of peaceful retirement for the rest of their lives.

“We’re very excited about hosting the farm-city tour this year,” said Ryerss President Joseph Donahue. “With over 100 years of history, Ryerss has a lot to share with visitors about horse care and farming in Chester County,” he added
