Rachel Alexandra Works Toward June 12 Start

Stonestreet Farm and Harold McCormick's Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra went through her final exercise regimen June 7 in preparation for her return to competition June 12.
With Shaun Bridgmohan aboard for trainer Steve Asmussen, the 4-year-old daughter of Medaglia d'Oro went a half-mile in :49 1/5 over a fast track at Churchill Downs. She was clocked in fractional times of :12 3/5 and :25 for the first quarter mile and galloped out five-eighths of a mile 1:02 4/5 upon completion of the work, which ranked 15th among 45 horses working the distance.
"Everything seemed very comfortable," Asmussen said in a release.
As previously outlined by Stonestreet Farm's owner Jess Jackson, the June 12 options for Rachel Alexandra are the $600,000-added Stephen Foster Handicap (gr. I) and $200,000-added Fleur De Lis (gr. II), both at Churchill Downs. The Stephen Foster would send the 4-year-old up against older males while the Fleur De Lis is limited to fillies and mares
