WNV in Idaho horses

The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) reported Aug. 29 that a Jerome County, Idaho, horse tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). This is the third confirmed case of WNV in Idaho horses in 2018.

“A 10-year-old Quarter Horse stallion at a private facility showed an onset of neurological signs on Aug. 24,” the EDCC said.

The horse developed ataxia (incoordination) and subsequent recumbency (inability to rise). A PCR blood test carried out at the University of California, Davis, confirmed the WNV diagnosis, the EDCC said
