On Sept. 21, equine scientists, students, and practitioners from around the world will gather in Rome, Italy, for the 14th annual International Society for Equitation Science (ISES) conference.

Presenters will address this year’s theme, “Equine Welfare: Good Training, Good Feeding, Good Housing, Good Mental State, Good Health, Good Behavior,” by presenting their latest research findings in a packed program of plenary lectures, oral and poster presentations, workshops, and practical demonstrations.

What constitutes good equine welfare is the subject of much debate within the horse world and everyday discussion is often based on subjective opinion rather than scientific research. Equitation science provides a means for objectively assessing the welfare of horses in all aspects of their lives.

This year, a number of plenary lectures will be given by world-renowned speakers to represent each aspect of the conference theme. Each plenary will be supported by a series of shorter presentations which have been carefully selected to further represent the individual themes and present the latest research
