The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) reported that no new cases of equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) were confirmed at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center (LAEC) on Nov. 15.

Earlier this week, one horse at the LAEC tested positive for the virus Nov. 14, and two febrile horses which tested negative on Nov. 10 were re-sampled Nov. 13. They again tested negative.

Twelve horses at the LAEC remain in quarantine. To date, seven horses at the facility have displayed neurologic signs and subsequently tested positive for EHV-1, and another four horses with fevers have tested positive for the virus. One of the neurologic cases was euthanized, but the remaining “six neurologic cases and four confirmed EHV-1-positive horses continue to show improvement and remain in isolation. In addition, (the) two febrile horses in isolation have twice tested negative and will continue to be monitored in isolation,” the CDFA said in a Nov. 15 statement.

“Enhanced biosecurity measures are in place in all barns under quarantine and all horses’ temperatures are monitored twice daily,” the statement continued. “CDFA veterinarians, livestock inspectors and USDA animal health technicians continue to monitor the quarantine and incident situation on-site
