A Utah owner has been charged in the deaths of 10 horses found without access to water in July.

On July 18, Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake personnel answered a call reporting possible dead horses located in a private pasture in Magna, Utah. Further investigation revealed that 10 horses had died in the pasture; one other horse survived

Lieutenant Justin Hoyal, Unified Police spokesman, said investigators found no water sources for the animals. Necropsies conducted by the Utah State Veterinarian's office revealed that the horses died of dehydration, Hoyal said.

“With these findings investigators will be screening criminal charges against the horses' owner with the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office for animal cruelty,” Hoyal said
