My horses are home. I don’t show. They don’t come into contact with other horses. Brushes get cleaned as needed. Do you count banging the dust out? Pulling wads of hair during shedding season?
After having horses for over 50 yrs I have silly amounts of tack. I make sure the ones that aren’t used are cleaned and oiled once a year. The two saddles I actually use get it more often.
I clean tack and equipment based on usage, time if year and obvious need. Brushes get cleaned as often as needed to keep them clean. My mid brush, for example, gets rinsed when it gets muddy. My body and dandy brushes have natural bristles, so get cleaned once a year. My bridles get cleaned after each use, and my saddle gets wiped down after each use indoors (dusty arena), and the snow gets brushed off after a winter ride. My halters are only used when my horses come inside, which is once or twice a day for short periods. They are not used for turn out, so they don’t get dirty. They get cleaned as needed. This poll is way too broad to be useful. Who cleans brushes as often as bits, for example?
