The equine herpesvirus-1 outbreak began at an FEI jumping competition in Valencia, Spain, with cases spreading to Belgium, France, and Germany. The FEI calls it “probably the most serious EHV-1 outbreak in Europe for decades.”

Seventy-two potentially exposed horses were released from restricted movement following 14 days of monitoring.

Six exposed horses remain quarantined.

The cases bring the province’s number of affected equine premises to three.

Both Hanover County farms have completed EHV monitoring.

Veterinarians have confirmed two more Washington state horses with equine influenza (EI). One of the horses also has respiratory EHV-1.

The positive tests follow the euthanasia of three other horses at the facility.

The horse that tested positive has been euthanized.

The Pasco County horse has not traveled recently and lives at a private facility.

The Oakland County premises has cleared the 21-day clear-test hurdle.

Five horses were exposed at the private facility.

The release clears the index case, as well as its Ventura County facility and 32 additional horses housed there.

The affected horse remains under quarantine at a California veterinary hospital.

The California Department of Food and Agriculture states no additional cases were reported among exposed horses.

Thirty-two horses at a boarding facility remain under quarantine following exposure.
