As the Department of the Interior considers moving the new BLM headquarters from Washington, D.C. to a Western site, advocates believe the move could have benefits for wild horses under the agency’s management.

The BLM said the gather is necessary as there is not enough water to support the number of horses in the area.
The agency plans to remove about 149 wild horses and administer fertility control to horses returning to the range.
Attendees will have the opportunity to view approximately 200 mares roaming on approximately 3,875 acres at the Chickasaw Ranch on Aug. 11.
The BLM will remove up to 60 wild horses from the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Range, near Grand Junction, Colorado.

The BLM plans to remove approximately 200 wild horses from within and outside the Bible Springs Complex and Sulphur Herd Management Area in Iron and Beaver Counties, Utah.
The BLM will gather 250 horses from the Deer Spring area in Nevada’s Antelope Valley Herd Management Area because there is not enough water to support all the horses residing in the area.
The closure could delay the shipment of the wild horses gathered from three Wyoming herd management areas to BLM facilities and events nationwide to be placed into private care.
