Horse owners on rural farms in Missouri and Illinois will have access to a new mobile equine clinic offered by Tim Ellis, DVM, and Burny Baxter, DVM, of Mid Rivers Equine Centre in Wentzville, Mo.

"The purpose of our remote-location service is to bring the skills and expertise of a large equine referral hospital to rural areas that don’t have an exclusive equine practice," Ellis said.

The mobile equine hospital is a 39′ trailer that was originally designed and built to accommodate equine surgeries. Mid Rivers customized some aspects and modified the surgical room into a climate-controlled exam room, along with a functioning lab and small office.

Veterinarians will be able to perform preventative care, emergency care, lameness evaluations, injury rehab, podiatry, reproductive evaluations, ultrasounds, ophthalmology, dermatology exams, uterine cultures and biopsies, and artificial insemination
