Something as simple as hauling your horse to a show or trail ride can incite equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS). Some researchers suggest that up to 50% of "normal" backyard horses have ulcers, including broodmares and young horses.
For more than a decade equine gastric ulcer syndrome and colonic ulcers have been linked to performance and health problems in horses. Today, research continues to improve our understanding of ulcers, and the results are beginning to help veterinarians develop new strategies for prevention and treatment
