Several news stories out of Australia indicate that the first horse has died of equine influenza in New South Wales. According to and article in Stuff.co.nz on Aug. 31, a horse in Wilberforce, about 44 miles northwest of Sydney, has died


A report in ABC Australia states that the lockdown at Randwick Racecourse near Sydney has been lifted to allow horses to be exercised .


The Sydney Spring Racing Carnival was cancelled Aug. 30 after eight horses were found positive for equine influenza at Randwick. The track and about 700 horses stabled in and around the area will be under quarantine for at least two months.


A fifth property in Queensland was reported to be under quarantine the morning of Aug. 31 after a horse at a Brookfield property in western Brisbane tested positive for equine influenza, ABC Australia reported. Other Queensland quarantined properties are at Warwick, Minden, Rosewood, and Kenmore; all are in western Brisbane
