Pasture-Associated Laminitis and Countermeasures

Researchers with the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research in Aberystwyth, Wales, suggested some possible preventative measures for pasture-associated laminitis in the July issue of the Journal of Nutrition.
"It is obviously important to be able to recognize and treat the condition in its early stages so that pain and suffering are kept to a minimum," noted the researchers. "However, ideally it would be preferred to be able to recommend certain interventions/countermeasures that avoid or prevent the condition in the first place."
The researchers note that while undeniably effective, total restriction of horses from pasture is not ideal for reasons of finances, welfare, and health
