A loose horse that wandered onto a roadway near Woodland, Calif., last week was killed by one vehicle and its body was hit by a second automobile, according to the Woodland Daily Democrat (https://www.dailydemocrat.com/news/ci_3183488). Four people were taken to the UC Davis Medical Center (UCDC) as a result of the accidents.
“Woodland resident Mary Stetson, 65, was driving west on Highway 16 near County Road 97,” the article said. “Her 2002 Honda Civic collided with the Thoroughbred, which had gotten onto the roadway. California Highway Patrol officers said it was not clear how the horse had become loose.” Stetson and a passenger were taken to the hospital after complaints of back, neck, and chest pain.
Shortly thereafter, a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe that was traveling east collided with the dead horse in the road. “The driver of that car, 36-year-old Emelda Vidrio, of Woodland, was taken by ambulance to the UCDC with abdominal pain,” the article continued. “Vidrio’s one-month-old daughter (who was properly secured in a car seat) did not appear to suffer any injuries, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.”
The horse was a 7-year-old Thoroughbred
