All but one of the workhorses quarantined at Turfway Park have been cleared to return to the track on Tuesday (Jan. 24) after testing negative for equine herpesvirus.
Robert Stout, DVM, Kentucky state veterinarian, rescinded the restrictions on all but one of the 32 lead ponies and outrider horses. Testing found that the animals showed no signs of the virus that killed a filly and quarantined horses in two barns last month, the track said Monday.
One horse produced an inconclusive test and will remain at the Boone County Fair Grounds. The horse will eventually be moved to a suitable location.
