The operators of a rescue farm in Florida are facing additional fraud charges in connection with the seizure of multiple animals from their facility earlier this year.

In February, the Manatee County Sheriff's Department confiscated nine horses and about 300 other allegedly malnourished animals from the Napier Log Cabin Horse and Animal Sanctuary, owned and operated by Alan and Sheree Napier, in Bradenton, Florida. Authorities seized another eight allegedly maltreated horses from a property in Myakka City, Florida, belonging to the same owners. All the horses, many of which were allegedly emaciated, were taken to Whispering Ranches.

On April 17 the Manatee County Sheriff's Office charged Alan and Sheree Napier with 15 counts each of animal torture with intent. Alan Napier was also charged with one count of employing a solicitation device to defraud. On April 19, a veterinarian was also charged in connection to the seizure, according to Manatee County Sheriff's Office's arrest records. The Napier removal prompted an independent audit of the Manatee County Animal Services Department.

On June 2 Alan Napier was additionally charged with one count of scheme to defraud and two counts of unlawful solicitation of funds, said Manatee County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer David Bristow. Sheree Napier was charged with one count of scheme to defraud and one count of unlawful solicitation of funds, Bristow said
