A 24-year-old gelding in the United Kingdom suffered severe burns after being doused in gasoline and set on fire in early March. At first, owners Geoffrey and Kath McWilliams believed they would have to euthanize Gus, but according to an article in the Manchester Evening News (https://www.manchesteronline.co.uk, 4/15/03), he’s recovering gradually and currently is able to walk around the pasture near his stable in Little Lever, Bolton.

Geoffrey McWilliams was quoted in the article, “He has been in a lot of pain and he’s now wary of people. The healing process has been very traumatic for him.” He and his wife bathe the horse daily, and the horse’s veterinarian remains optimistic
