The Equine Research Centre (ERC) and the University of Guelph Office of Open Learning will offer Canada’s first online Equine Science Certificate Program. This certificate is a partnership between the ERC, the Office of Open Learning at the University of Guelph, and Can-Adapt.

The program consists of six online courses and is designed to enhance the knowledge of those who wish to pursue a career in the equine industry, or for anyone who desires to improve the health and performance of his or her own horse.

Courses will cover equine anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition, health and disease prevention, equine management, and growth and development. Each course uses a variety of resources including textbooks, CD-ROMs, videos, online conferencing, and guest lectures. Students will meet and converse with classmates and instructors online.

The Office of Open Learning at the University of Guelph has received numerous awards, including Best Course at the North American Web Conference. The University is also recognized as a leading institution in Veterinary Science. The ERC was created and is funded by the equine industry. Its mandate is to manage the industry’s research contribution, communicate research results to the industry, and to develop new educational opportunities for the equine industry in Canada and internationally. The ERC has extensive links with the Ontario Veterinary College, the University of Guelph, and other international equine research organizations and agencies.
