Proceedings have ground to a halt pending the next court date for Chicago carriage horse company J.C. Cutters Ltd., including any further adoption or transfer of ownership of the five remaining horses.

Defense attorney John Robeznieks has now secured a temporary restraining order (TRO) preventing the Hooved Animal Humane Society from finding new homes for the five horses still in their care. One horse has already been placed with a new owner (read more).  

“The judge granted our emergency petition for the TRO,” reported Robeznieks. “TROs are usually good for ten days, but the judge entered it for six weeks, until the next court date.”

The six carriage horses were seized on Feb. 6. Mark Rosenthal, operations manager for Chicago Animal Care & Control, said the horses were impounded due to violation of two City of Chicago Municipal Codes, 7-12-290b and 7-12-290i
