A horse in Florida is recovering after an alligator allegedly injured it.

In a written statement on GoFundMe the horse’s owner, Mike Ramasanto, said the 21-year-old Thoroughbred was trying to escape torrid summer temperatures in Port Richey, Florida, by wading in a pond, when an alligator allegedly attacked it from behind. The horse sustained deep lacerations to its backside.

“This is a very large open wound that will take about eight to 10 months of daily therapy,” Ramasanto said
