EHV in Indiana

On Jan. 21 the Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) reported that a horse from Elkhart County, Indiana, tested positive for equine herpsesvirus-1 (EHV-1).

The Indiana State Board of Animal Health reported that the affected horse became ill on Jan. 5, was treated Jan. 6, and euthanized later that day, the EDCC said.

Herpesvirus is highly contagious among horses and can cause a variety of ailments in equids, including rhinopneumonitis (a respiratory disease usually found in young horses), abortion in broodmares, and EHM.
