The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Nevada is hoping that the offer of a $10,000 cash reward will help identify those responsible for the death of a wild horse at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center, near Carson City, last October.

Lisa Ross, BLM public information specialist, said inmates discovered that a wild horse had been shot and killed while contained in a corral with other horses on the correctional center premises.

“The horse was found by inmates while they carried out routine care-taking activities.” Ross said. “None of the other horses in the corral were injured.”

Ross said that the inmates were part of the Northern Nevada Correctional Center/Stewart Conservation Camp Saddle Horse and Burro Training Program, a cooperative partnership between the BLM and the Nevada Department of Corrections-Silver State Industries that gentles and trains Mustangs and burros before they are offered for adoption.
