Spring is here and, in some areas, so is the grass … and lots of it. If you left the decision up to your horse, he’d probably graze on it all day. But this isn’t possible for some horses for a variety of reasons. How much pasture access does your horse have each day?

In last week’s online poll, we asked our readers how much access their horses have to fresh pasture during the spring and summer. More than 1,400 people responded, and we’ve tallied the results!

Of the 1,442 respondents, 684 (47%) said their horses have access to fresh pasture for 12 hours or more each day, and 154 people (11%) said their horses stay on pasture for six to nine hours per day. Another 149 respondents (10%) said they allow their horses pasture access for nine to 12 hours per day, while 130 people (9%) said their horses have three to six hours of pasture asscess per day. Some 100 individuals’ (7%) horses stay on pasture for one to three hours daily, and 77 respondents (5%) said their horses have less than one hour of pasture access per day. The remaining 148 respondents (10%) said their horses do not have access to pasture
