Arizona Clear of VSV Quarantines

In its July 16 Situation Report, the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced the release of a premises in Maricopa County, Arizona, from quarantine for vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV). No new cases have been reported in Arizona since the previous Situation Report on July 13.

Since Arizona’s index case was confirmed on April 22 in Cochise County, officials have identified and quarantined 18 confirmed positive and one suspect premises:

  • Apache (2 confirmed positive)
  • Cochise (4 confirmed positive)
  • Gila (1 confirmed positive)
  • Maricopa (7 confirmed positive and 1 suspect)
  • Pima (1 confirmed positive)
  • Pinal (2 confirmed positive)
  • Santa Cruz 1 confirmed positive)

No Arizona premises are currently quarantined for VSV.

Veterinarians quarantine and monitor premises with confirmed positive and suspect cases for at least 14 days from the onset of lesions in the last animal affected
