We are pleased to announce the founding of the U.S. Lusitano Association (USLA), the first organization dedicated exclusively to the Lusitano horse in the United States to be formally affiliated with the Portuguese Association of Purebred Lusitano Horse Breeders (APSL).

The mission of the organization is to preserve, protect, and promote the Lusitano horse in the United States and Canada. USLA will serve breeders of the purebred Lusitano horse by assisting with the registration and inspection of horses in accordance with APSL Studbook Rules. In addition, it will work to preserve the history of the Lusitano and offer educational resources related to the breed to equine enthusiasts. USLA will assist with the promotion of the breed by offering opportunities for competition and awards specifically for the achievements of Lusitano horses.

The board of the new organization is currently led by Sheri Prucka, owner of Wasatch Lusitanos. “The versatile Lusitano is growing in popularity and presence throughout the world. Now is the perfect time to establish an organization devoted exclusively to this incredible horse in the U.S. and Canada.” With the establishment of USLA, Lusitano Breeders will be able to directly register their horses as“Lusitanos” with both USLA and APSL.
