Alabama law enforcement authorities are hoping the promise of a cash reward will help identify those responsible for fatally shooting a horse in Shelby County.

In a written statement, Shelby County Sheriff Joe Samaniego said deputies responded to a call reporting that a horse was discovered dead in a pasture on Dec. 28, 2016. The Quarter Horse/Thoroughbred-cross was shot intentionally, Samaniego’s statement said.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Alabama Agricultural and Rural Crime Unit, are investigating the incident, Samaniego said.

“Our investigators will work diligently to find the person responsible for this heartless act of cruelty,” Samaniego said
