The Horse is based in Lexington, Kentucky, where we’re fortunate enough to be mere miles away from multiple high-quality equine veterinary clinics and hospitals. For horse owners in other areas of the country, however, neaby access to veterinary care is more of a dream than a reality.

How far are you located from your veterinarian’s office/clinic, (or home in the case of ambulatory vets)?  We posed this question to our online readers in last week’s poll. More than 1,000 people responded and we’ve tallied the results!

Of the 1,008 respondents, 318 (32%) said their horses are 10 miles or less away from their vet clinic, and another 285 (28%) said they’re located 11-20 miles from their veterinarian’s office. Some 169 respondents (17%) said their horses are approximately 21-30 miles from their veterinarian, and 106 people (11%) are located 31-40 miles from a vet. Only 48 respondents (5%) fell in the 41-50 miles range, and the remaining 82 respondents (8%) said their veterinarian is located more than 50 miles from their horses.
