The USA Equestrian Trust has awarded $55,000 in grants to help fund four projects by equine nonprofits
The legislation provides enhanced tax incentive for landowners who retire development rights on their land.
The award honors a member who has contributed time and expertise to benefit horse health and welfare.
The President’s Award honors an AAEP member who has demonstrated a dedication to the association during the past year by contributing a significant portion of time and expertise to benefit the health and welfare of the horse.
The program awards financial support to students who are advocates for equine welfare and academic achievers.
The AAEP presented its 2013 Distinguished Service Award to Harry M. Werner, VMD.
The AAEP presented Benjamin Franklin Jr., DVM, with the Distinguished Life Member Award.
Dr. Frank Nickels and Dr. Barrie Grand received Distinguished Educator Awards.
Dr. Mark Baus and Dr. Stuart Brown have joined the AAEP board of directors.
Dr. Jeff Blea takes the reins as president while Dr. Kathy Anderson takes over as vice president.
The beneficiaries of the challenge will be horses, donkeys, mules, and their owners in developing countries.
Each researcher will receive a grant of $15,000 to study equine infectious diseases during 2014.
Nelson is researching early arthritis detection.
Each received a $5,000 fellow to support their endeavors in equine research and a $500 travel stipend.
“The Horse Comes First” is an promoting the welfare of horses throughout and after their careers in racing.
The course will provide students with the opportunity to re-examine their knowledge regarding equine welfare.
