An Alabama man is in custody in connection with the shooting deaths of two horses.

Oxford, Alabama, Police Captain L.G. Owens said the horses' owner reported finding one of the animals dead in a pasture in February. The other horse died shortly thereafter, he said. Both animals had sustained gunshot wounds, Owens said.

On May 30, Oxford Police charged Brandon Salers with two counts of malicious death of livestock in connection with the shootings, Owens said. The charges are Class C felonies under Alabama's criminal code, he said.

Salers remains in jail and was unavailable for comment
