EIA in Texas Horses: Additional Cases Confirmed

Texas animal health officials have confirmed additional cases of equine infectious anemia (EIA) in horses in that state, the Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) reported Aug. 14. According to EDCC records officials have confirmed at least 20 cases of EIA in Texas horses so far this year.
On July 13, Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) officials reported that a Quarter Horse from McLennan County had tested positive. Since then, the EDCC said, two additional horses from the quarantined premises have tested confirmed positive, as well.
On June 13, the TAHC reported EIA in two Wilson County Quarter Horses on a single premises. Since that time, one additional horse from the quarantined premises has tested positive. The positive horses have been euthanized
