Miniature Horses, Ponies Seized in Texas
Dozens of Miniature Horses and ponies are receiving rehabilitative care after they were removed from a property near Houston, Texas.
Julie Kuenstle, director of communications for the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said investigators responded to an anonymous tip about allegedly maltreated horses residing on a property in Baytown. Upon arrival, the SPCA investigators discovered approximately 80 Miniature Horses and ponies, including pregnant mares, allegedly residing without fresh water access. Veterinary evaluations revealed that the animals were suffering from a variety of health issues, including breathing problems, overgrown hooves, malnutrition, and lameness, she said.
On Aug. 16, following the evaluation, the animals were removed under a civil cruelty warrant served by the Harris County Constable’s Office, Kuenstle said.
A hearing to determine the animals’ custody is slated for next week
