The foundation’s priorities are to fund veterinary student scholarships and educational programs that improve the care of horses; exceptional equine research in pursuit of new treatments and cures; at-risk equine programs such as working equid welfare; disaster preparedness training and relief efforts for horses in need; and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of horses at risk or in transition.

Priority emphasis is given to applications with the most impact on the welfare of the horse on a national and international scope and those affecting multiple horses or in need of emergency funding. Funds are not provided to for-profit individuals or groups; rescue, retirement, or retraining facilities; or unsolicited equine research requests.
