After much anticipation during the 15-day period following Zenyatta’s mating to Bernardini, the 2011 Horse of the Year has been confirmed in foal.

Zenyatta was bred Feb. 23 to Bernardini, who stands at Darley near Lexington. According to the Zenyatta website, the 7-year-old mare was scanned early the morning of March 10, after which her pregnancy was confirmed.

"From what I am told, everything looks fabulous and solid. The embryo looks to be a good size. So at this time, everything is wonderful," said the website post, written as if told by Zenyatta.

The Zenyatta website is maintained by Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs, racing manager for owners Jerry and Ann Moss and wife of trainer John Shirreffs, who directed Zenyatta’s career to 19 wins and one second in 20 career starts
