Bait laced with rabies vaccine will be dropped from airplanes in 44 Texas counties in an effort targeting coyotes and gray foxes.

The Texas Department of State Health Services annual oral rabies vaccination drop begins Jan. 6 from the Zapata County Airport.

The second portion of the drop is scheduled to start Jan. 11 from Junction’s Kimble County Airport and from the Fort Stockton-Pecos County Airport.

About 3.3 million baits filled with rabies vaccine will be dropped on 44 counties, agency officials said.
