In light of the recent outbreak of the equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1), organizers of this year’s Sidelines Equestrian Triathlon have postponed the event originally scheduled for Jan. 6, 2007, at Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club in Wellington, Fla.

Samantha Charles, publisher of Sidelines Magazine, regretfully announced, “At this time, I am afraid that we are on hold for the Sidelines Equestrian Triathlon to benefit the Equestrian Aid Foundation. Due to the recent virus outbreak, most of our horses are in a lockdown and no events or intermingling of horses is advised. We will certainly reschedule the triathlon; we’re just not sure yet of a date. Much depends on the duration of this outbreak. We will be contacting everyone in plenty of time so that we can keep you all involved.”

A devoted group of volunteers are still persevering in the planning of the event. “We will continue to organize our silent auction and accept table and ticket sales,” she added. “Our teams are lined up, shirts on order, VIP tables have been sold, and several wonderful silent auction items have already been collected. So when we do reschedule we should be ready to go.”

The Celebrity Bartending party at the Players Club on Thursday night ,Jan. 4, 2007, beginning at 7:30 p.m., is still on. “We hope everyone will come out and enjoy a little holiday cheer and give Robert Dover, Michelle Grubb, Tony Coppol, and other triathlon players and celebrities a little run for their money trying to serve you a libation!” Charles concluded
