I am excited and anxious as I prepare to depart for Fez, Morocco on a one month veterinary externship. There is an inherent sense of adventure in heading to a developing country to face conditions that will depart so far from the usual routine. Currently, I am finishing the third year of veterinary school at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. My studies are equine-focused, and I intend to pursue an ambulatory equine internship upon graduation.

The article "At Work in Morocco," published in The Horse in June 2006 is how I learned about the plight of the working equids in Morocco and the importance of the veterinary care offered through the MSPCA at the American Fondouk. The informative article and captivating photographs piqued my interest enough that I contacted Dr. Frappier directly to arrange a visit to the Fondouk. While I do not speak any Arabic, I should be able to communicate effectively with the locals as Morocco’s second language is French. My mom is from France, where I’ve spent many summer vacations, and my French is still passable
